Picture size?

Hi,
I always loved the concept of the site and the quality of the work. But something which always disappointed me was the size of the pictures. Many of the better sites (mainstream) offer at least 1600x1200pxl, some even 3000x2000pxl! The small pictures were the only reason why I always canceled my membership after a short time.
So, what's the situation today?

Pictures were always based on monitor size, but now we offer them in 3 formats 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 1024 , and 1024 x 768 so everyone can view them in their desired size.

And 3000 makes no sense for pc because of most monitors will not go higher then 1920 , so what is the use offering 3000 ? 3000 is really for print size and magazines.
